@Lambchopalot You have to realize that entertainment in China has no competition. The government gives subsidies to whoever they think benefits the government, kind of like America giving subsidies to corporations. But in addition, China use their police power to shut down and ban artists to their will. This is why Youtube, twitter, etc. are banned from China.
