Storm chasers Wesley Luginbyhl, Curtis McDonald and Daniel Betten chased a MONSTER supercell across South Dakota into northern Nebraska, documenting incredible storm structure and inflow winds, hail larger than golfballs and finally a photogenic tornado near Valentine, NE at around sunset.

  • @6kahuna6 6Kahuna6, was there any town that was kind of close to the tornado? I chase the midwest for a month each spring, but had flown home to Ariz. by the end of June. I AM a Nebr. native, from Lincoln. I have chased those sandhills for many years. My cousin has a place near O'Neill, and I've worked the area from there westbound to Chadron a LOT. I always seem to see tornadoes near O'Neill and Gordon. My SUV took a DIRECT HIT two Junes ago at the Rock / Holt Co. line at midnite. I got lucky.

  • At the very beginning (@2:12) I think that if you could have seen below that wall cloud, you might have actually seen some dust whirls. Was the ground visible during this time to you guys in the car?

  • You know, you look at SPC's 1950-to-present tornado touchdown map of Nebr, and you'll see a vast area around those sandhills of apparent tornado void-ness. BUT, Cherry county Nebraska (Valentine) is the largest county in the U.S. with the LEAST amount of people. The entire sandhills area is extremely void of people, some counties having only 600-800 people! But this area is a prolific tornado producer. Poor road networks + few people = very misleading tornado counts. HUGE storms thru there.

  • From Valentine and was still living in Valentine when this storm was there. Beautiful stills at the end.

  • god this is home to me, im liveing in Texas and miss being in nebraska.

  • We were further south on this storm and just sat to let it come at us. That inflow tail right on the ground was amazing. That is going to be very difficult structure to beat. We never did see the tornado, but we did get one in Colorado two days later on that screaming monster that flew from N to S. We caught the tornado near Lamar, at 25 miles distance. Not very satisfying, but it was better than nothing. Nice catch on this one, guys!

  • The stills are stunning!

  • ahhahah 1:45 very funny

  • terrible state DX

  • The stills were really beautiful.
