@EndDepravity Shinya was already learning Kosen style Judo from his University. Kano, if i can recall, he made the Kyoto region of colleges to maintain the newaza tournament aspect of judo.

This is probably my favorite half guard pass. I use it all the time. All the time. Basic, simple, effective. Love Judo.

He's said it's an old Judo move dozens of times. If you weren't too busy hating on guys for utilizing the classics and extending their usefulness, you may actually learn to use them.

Kosen Judo is very different from Judo.
Kosen Judo is really like BJJ.
There is no ippon for a fall.
The only way to get ippon is by submission.
In japan there has always been some tensions between the kosen judokas and the other ones.
Learn the facts before spreading misconceptions over the Internet.

Indeed BJJ comes from Original Judo (like Kosen).
But Original Judo has been forgotten by the Judo World.
Those who remember are a few Japanese old men and BJJers.
Before BJJ storms the planet nobody in the judo world care about kosen judo.
Now all the judo guys get out of the bush and claim kosen judo is the shit.
Bjj would not have been there kosen judo will be dead now.
Shame on the honorless scoundrels that rap the kosen old timers and praise them when they need them.

Ok question. If kosen Judo is almost the same thing as Jiu-Jitsu why did the famous shoot fighter Yuki Nakai even bother going to Brazil to learn BJJ after losing to Rickson Gracie in 1995 vale tudo japan? If its the same thing why go all the way to Brazil? Then after he received his black belt from the Gracies he became a sought after teacher in Japan. He later went on to produce Japans best light weight fighter Shinya Aoki. Couldn't Aoki and Nakai learn this in japan? Why go through all this?

A lot of "new" or invented BJJ techniques were already present in Kosen Judo. BUt Kosen Judo which emphasizes a whole lot more on judo groundwork isnt a very popular version of the Judo we know now.
