Preview of Revolt of the Slaves starring Ettore Manni, Lang Jeffries, Serge Gainsbourg and Rhonda Fleming.

In this scene, the great Ettore Manni is punished for associating with Christians. This scene is NOT a spoiler.

I find this scene amazing for several reasons, the blunt violence but mostly for the near nakedness of Ettore, who plays Sebastian (Saint Sebastian). Nothing is left to the imagination, if you know what I mean. This was probably shocking back in 1960!

I like Revolt of the Slaves. It's a forgotten Peplum even though it's an important one re: the direction where S&S films went in the 1960s. The ending is not satisfying though.

I uploaded the trailer at the following link:

Original Italian Title: La Rivolta Degli Schiavi

  • Well, to be honest, he's wearing a brief loincloth. A bit is left to the imagination, but not a whole lot.

Was Serge Gainsbourg really in this muscleman opera -- the French film director, actor, pop songwriter and all-around eccentric?

  • Serge Gainsbourg started his legendary career in 3 Peplums. His first major starring role was in Revolt of the Slaves. He then subsequently starred in two Brad Harris films, Samson, and Fury of Hercules. You can watch Samson on my channel. Serge always plays the slimy villain.

As for Ettore Manni's loincloth, very little is left to the imagination. You can clearly see, eh, shapes. Arf. On a bigger screen, it's obvious, much more than anything people saw in 1960.

  • The blakc actor is Van Aikens. He did many peplums. See one of his dance classes on youtube.

  • Pier Paola Pasolini, like an an ancient Roman evil-doer. The Christian man was right about truth and justice having nothing to do with Rome's fascists or Pier Pasolini.

  • the arrow should be in his navel ..........

  • @capottawa 1960

  • Yes, I suppose you really have to see this picture on a theater-sized screen to fully appreciate Ettore Manni's, uh, manhood!
