How do you get it to work. I put my DVD in, I load up MPlayer. Click on Play DVD and then it freezes unless I press Home.

i downloaded mplayer, when i insert a dvd. it won't work. i click "play dvd" and then says mounting dvd.... then it stops and freezes at the mplayer background

nope HD DVD is a different format of disc. The wii's Opictal disc is pretty much similar to a DVD, so by changing changing a few things in the drive's software it can be allowed to read DVD films and DVD-Rs.
More development was done on DVDx which allowed backed-up games to be played, however the iso would have to be patched.

If you mean back up DVD films yes. Thats what I was using XD.
