Give yourself the edge

To face the challenges of the criminal justice field, you need knowledge, experience and commitment. Bartons Criminal Justice Program, provides a well-rounded education that gives you the experience needed to enter the job market right after graduation or to continue your education at a four-year institution.

Education makes a difference. Most federal and state agencies require a college degree, and many local agencies now require educational standards. Some agencies also base promotions on the number of college hours earned or a college degree. Earning your degree from Barton puts you in an excellent position to get the job or promotion you desire.

The First Degree
At Barton, you receive a rich blend of theoretical and practical knowledge through a balance of classes in your major and a wide variety of other courses giving you a broad-based education.

Depending on your individual career goal, you have the choice of two degree options. The Associate in Science Degree prepares students to transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a bachelors degree. The Associate in Applied Science Degree prepares students to start right into many criminal justice related positions.

Employment outlook looks good
As a graduate of Bartons Criminal Justice Program, you can apply for entry level positions such as state trooper, police officer, deputy sheriff, or correctional officer in a variety of municipal, county, state, or federal positions nationwide. There are also employment opportunities in other areas of the criminal justice system.

Internships
Youll have the opportunity to serve an internship at one of the many Kansas criminal justice agencies. The internship gives you hands-on knowledge and experience through observation.

Lambda Alpha Epsilon
Youre encouraged to join the Sigma Phi Omega Chapter of the criminal justice fraternity Lambda Alpha Epsilon. The Barton chapter sponsors national and regional criminal justice competitions, firearms workshops and pursuit driving seminars.
