Children and families that have an incarcerated loved one were able to celebrate Christmas at Union Park United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m. Voices of the Unheard organized a Christmas celebration with holiday activities, including decorating cookies and making picture frames , and ending with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus providing presents for the children.
Co-Founded by Misty Hansen, a family advocate, and Melissa Nelson of the Child and Family Policy Center, Voices of the Unheard began meeting in September 2008 every Tuesday at the church at 5:30 for dinner. After dinner, the group has an opportunity to reach out to people in similar situations and share their struggles. For more information, contact Melissa Nelson at 515-280-9027.
