  • Caught Sue at the Clearwater Blues Festival a couple of years ago... outstanding player and singer. She mentioned that she was writing a book featuring the female guitar players etc. Anyone heard how its coming along?

  • both good ya daft get let;s your pro licks then

  • I think Roxanne is holding in a dump

  • @rdiior1 check out debbie davies , saw her at the kitchner blues fest. last summer, awesome, played behind albert collins for years.

  • When it comes to the blues, I like Sue's tone. And Les Paul once said that a good guitarist is not one who can play really fast, but is that when the guitarist plays, the audience is listening, studying, enjoying, and crying because of the music! John Lee Hooker or Muddy Waters never played fast solos, but they are the legends, coz they express themselves through their guitars.

  • Man, I have to disagree. Sue's guitar playing is the foundation of her sound, which I love. I think her solos are very traditional and appropriate.

Since when did a blues guiarist have to be accurate and perfectly in synch with the rythem section? Tell that to Hendrix, Collins and Hubert Sumlin....or are they poor guitarists too?

  • My friend went to see her live and said it was fantastic so maybe its just in these few videos.

    Yeh J Burton i great! :)

  • "but a well rounded melody that fits the song and is played well. Unfortunately Foley does not do either."

Well, i disagree that she doesn't offer 'well rounded melodies that fit the song'. And hell, more pro gutiarists than not lack 'great technique' :) Clarence 'gatemouth' Brown for ex (who just plays with thumb and ONE finger)

Maybe you haven't seen her live enough ~ because your comments about her being 'out of time' just don't bear out.

love that you referenced J Burton though :)

  • i love foley's singing, but she ought to get a lead guitarist because her solos are very often out of time and her left hand technique needs practice as she is not very accurate.

As James Burton once said it is not speed that makes a good solo but a well rounded melody that fits the song and is played well. Unfortunately Foley does not do either.
