I remember this. I worked on one of the wards and when i started a guy showed me around

@emyrsmind what did they get replaced with
-
working in this room now.

You're right, hot water or steam they generate. Hp to kw is just a measurement, factor is 1,36 that means: 100kW are 136 hp. So i am guessing, the boilers in this video generate a power of 4080 hp or 3 Megawatts :o) Estimating, but, nevermind ;)
-
@thomaskah thats interesting since not all boilers will be used to generate kw
-
@MrBradfordjmooney in europe they are actually rated in kW or MW (megawatts) or in tones steam per hour. In those days they were measured in Joule or calories per hour here, europe^^ only our car motors are rated in hp over here
-
@thomaskah boilers are rated by hp, not kw/h. one hp is the generation of 34.5 lbs an hour of steam
-
i estimate 3000 kW each
The new boilers were being installed just as I left so I couldn't say what make they were or anything. All I know is that they were hot water boilers running on light fuel oil. These originals used to run on heavy oil 3500 secs. redwood.

My memory is getting a bit rusty now but all three boilers operated at 120psi. The smaller one at the far end generated something like 14,000pounds/hour steam and the large ones about 21,000lbs/hr
