One of the criticism's of CM hand defense is that it leaves you open to a body shot. This comment is often made by those who have never trained in CM, with a CM trainer or watched a 30 sec clip somewhere on the net, thinking that was the whole program. We dispell the myth here...

  • The body shot as it seems to be countered by the CMD, is still quite tricky (so it seems). The body shot can still penetrate if thrown from a low angle. No defense is fully protective for the entire body and every move one makes, an opening is created (even in defense). A body shot (an in between upper and body) will sneakily go under the elbow. That's ok, the head is more important. The defense should be: it's not perfect and yes a body can be thrown, but the head is well protected imho.

  • @dakodar that is the reality is it not:) Nothing is full proof. It is a question of protecting the most vulnerable lines, and getting ready to protect the rest. It also depends on who you spar, your level of game etc. I have guys in my studio, who I cannot even land a body shot on once in a round, and I am known for my body shots. Even when I do it is often not clean, as their defense is so good. Bottom line one video on YouTube is never the whole picture...there is a lot more to this...

  • When I tried the same tactic on Rodney, he absorbed or deflected my blows... and pounced when I relaxed.

He gave me a (relatively gentle) thrashing.

Afterwards, he simply said something like, "Stop admiring your own work so much"!

    Lesson learned!

  • I had developed a bad habit of throwing a quick, hard combination... and then taking a step back to watch my opponent stagger around... before I jumped back in.

  • Several years ago, I was lucky enough to spend a few months being coached by, and sparring with Rodney. He is articulate, insightful and a scary-good fighter.

  • no better way 2 make a training video thnx

  • @CrazyMonkeyDefense I can't agree more.

  • @afarius - Agreed, reminds me of a young Tyson.

  • Best boxing training vid i have ever seen at youtube

  • Noice.

I've fought a lot of people who try CM while sparring, without really having a clue. The most common one is that they actually block their own line of sight and will get lowkicked to oblivion.

Properly done CM on the other hand is a rare, rare treat filled with delicious facepunching :)
