The Breakup by The Rural Alberta Advantage from their album Departing (2011)

When the ice breaks,
When the hearts shake in the town and it marks the end of Winter,
The end of our love for now.

And you spent your Summers,
Your Summers in the south in the Central Rockies
And I left you now.

But what'll I do?
I never thought it was true.

Under the hill star,
Above the city tonight and past the cemetery,
Where my father tried to start a new life.

And I held you tight,
We were waiting for the breakup,
All the cracks in the ice.

And what'll I do?
I never thought it was true.
Cut a line in the snow with our boots,
Split this city in two,
From Abasand and Coker Two.
The ice is gone you'll leave me too,
The ice is gone you'll leave me too.

And you will find me,
When the Summer dies stuck in McMurray,
I'll be waiting for the ice.

And what'll I do?
I never thought it was true
Cut a line in the snow with our boots,
Split this city in two,
From Abasand and Coker Two.
The ice is gone you'll leave me too,
The ice is gone you'll leave me too.

    89.3 woot woot!!!

  • I love that RAA keeps their songs short. With their small musical ensemble, it's the best strategy to keep every song sounding fresh. Otherwise, it'd be hard to come up with enough variety within the song to be hitting 4-5 minute range and keep it interesting.

  • @flaksucks I love his voice, and his singing style.

But I do not fault anyone for thinking it's annoying. It is a unique voice which I like mostly because I've never heard one like it before. It helps the band's sound cut through the mass of music that all sounds the same. Your opinion is completely valid, and I wish you a good day sir.

  • Departing is so great, I feel sorry for the people that didn't hear it :(

  • @flaksucks no way.

  • I love the music but

man that guy's voice is annoying

  • I grew up in Abasand. 17 years in the same house. The cemetery was our playground, the star my make out spot.

  • great song
