  • I wish they would release the whole performance on DVD. Except for Scotto, it featured the phenomenal Tatiana Troyanos as Eboli. A few years after this performance was broadcast on TV in the US, the same MET production was broadcast again, but with Freni, Bumbry and Domingo in the leads. Unfortunately, Deutsche Grammophon chose to release the second broadcast on DVD, the one with Freni and Bumbry. Nothing against them, but Scotto and Troyanos are so much more thrilling!

  • Say what you want about Scotto...She may not have been one of the best sopranos..but she was one of the most INTERESTING..everything she does here is absolutely at the service of Verdi and Elisabetta...You feel what she feels...and i would rather have a soprano who makes me feel something rather than one that just sang perfect notes..and i guess that was the difference with Scotto..She made you feel opera, not just listen to it..

  • LA PLUS GRANDE QUELLE EMOTION JE N AI JAMAIS VU CA

  • Scotto conveys real vulnerability .

There are other uploads which perhaps offer finer singing but none come close in terms of emotional impact.

  • @ginlemon29 I [ike very much your words about Raphael and Michelangelo in this context. For me also - "Michelangelo-type" artists ARE the most preferable.

  • when the king say madame now you go you live did you see the face of scotto she is the best great great........

  • la plus grande divina divina........

  • @Rospaint You are not alone!!! Who cares about listening to marvellous notes perfectly sung, when you can have a real interpretation, even if not SO well sung? I love Caballe (also her Don Carlo - nobody succeded in holding the last note like her), but I think Scotto was better... In my opinion, it's like seeing, from the one part Raffaello's works and, from the other side, Michelagelo ones. Both are beautiful, still I prefer the second.

  • THE BEST THE BEST I LOVE HER GREAT GREAT GREAT

  • @doperasinger They can say whatever they want. The truth is. Scotto is one of the best sopranos of the 20th century. History says so.... and they... well... who are they?.... a bunch of nobodies!

  • Bravoooooooooooo Renataaaaaaaaaa

  • Onegin 65 Many thanks!!! Scotto is really a GRAND actress and musician - ALWAYS... So nice to know - so many opera-fans feel the same.

By the way I prefer her to Caballe - maybe I am alone in this feeling...

    Best regards
