Latimer's Sensational Masters Win

Queensland star Darren Latimer scored a sensational victory in the final of the V8 Dirt Modified Masters at Lismore Speedway on Sunday night, January 25.
Many long-time observers have described this race as one of the best events seen at the circuit in years as Latimer came from behind in the latter stages of the race and scored a last-gasp victory.
Runner-up was Lismore ace Mark Robinson, while Peter Britten (Queensland) was third.
Britten, who dominated proceedings the previous evening during the Masters' preliminary events, looked as though he was set to steal a march on his rivals again as he led the Masters Final.
However, with only a few laps remaining, Britten slowed as his tyres went off. It was all Robinson needed to stake his claim for victory.
The battle between Britten and Robinson at the top of the field was enthralling as they swapped the lead late in the race.
But neither accounted for Latimer who came on strongly in the last four laps.
He took his opportunity when Britten and Robinson were caught up in lapped traffic and he passed both in one spectacular swoop.
It was the passing move of the race and Latimer was never headed over the last few laps. He raced to a very impressive victory from Robinson and Britten.
American Champion Jimmy Phelps had a frustrating night as his factory built Troyer machine experienced motor problems. He was seeded into the final as promoter's choice after a disappointing run of outs that left Phelps a disappointed man as he was determined to put on an exciting show for the fans.
Meanwhile the Compact Speedcar Trans-Tasman Challenge was keenly contested over the two nights on a match race/heat point score system involving drivers from New Zealand, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.
Victoria's Australian Compact Speedcar Champion Danny Stainer was in top form throughout both nights, culminating with victory in Sunday evening's main event from Rob Jackson (Queensland) and Mark Maczek (Queensland).
However, despite Stainer's sterling performance over the two nights, it was not enough to earn Victoria the win in the Trans-Tasman Challenge.
That honour went to the NZ combination of Lawrence Baker and Paul Le Cren after they scored a six point win in the tournament over NSW (90 points), Queensland (87) and Victoria (82).
Meanwhile Anthony Cheffee was the winner of the Dwarf Car feature NSW Title. Other main event victors were Scott Owen (Street Stocks) and Stuart Hall (AMCA Nationals).
@rhodesta What are you talking about, Sprintcars or Modifieds? Our modifieds dont have wings on the front, only the top. With the wing on they are roughly 7feet tall. Our Modifieds are also not as wide. Dont know how much horsepower the aussies are running but most of ours are in the range of 600-750hp. If you look hard enough on here you will find them, but make sure they are modifieds not sporintcars like this muppet says

@bigrig18 these are V8 Dirt Modifieds based on the Modifieds from the US most of them are imported just like Sprintcars.
and the Trans Tasmin challenge was for Compact Speedcars.
