Dr. Leonard Sebastian is Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Indonesia Program at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (formerly the Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies). He is author of Realpolitik Ideology: Indonesia's Use of Military Force (Singapore: Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, 2006), and is a member of the Advisory Panel to the Government Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Foreign Affairs. Dr. Sebastian joined RSIS as Senior Fellow in October 2000. From February 1995 to September 2000 he was a fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS). He holds a PhD in Politics and International Relations from Australian National University, where he is affiliated with the Strategic and Defense Studies Centre of the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies. In October 2003, Dr. Sebastian was awarded a research grant from the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) to study militant Islamic movements in Indonesia, and has been a Fulbright Fellow at Harvard University.
