The best place to see this is from New Zealand;s south island, during winter (sorry Ausies)m from somewhere in the ocuntryside. Omarama (north Otago) is recommended since there are no towns around, just farmland.

i'm one of the lucky ones who live in tasmania, we get to see the aurora quite often during the winter months, only on clear nights of course!! :)

you could see them from the suburbs in tasmania in 2003 they are not a hoax its the southern lights thou normally they are not visable from australia
