http://www.ted.com Cellist Maya Beiser plays a gorgeous eight-part modern etude with seven copies of herself, and segues into a meditative music/video hybrid -- using tech to create endless possibilities for transformative sound. Music is Steve Reich's "Cello Counterpoint," then David Lang's "World to Come" with video by Irit Batsry.
TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate.

Ms. Beiser's playing is beautiful and, frankly, moving. I'm ignorant of most modern classical music, but this performance is going to encourage me to go learn more.

Beautiful, as was the music. I rarely listen to performances this intensely.

I came across this today and had to share it with you:
/watch?v=2AFqYeXKK3I
TWELVE parts and the music he's doing is more complex and is more complexly interwoven... from his home, which is more impressive then if he had professional backing.
Look these guys who are professionals and what they do with 100 tracks: /watch?v=rR94NDIfGmA
I change my original assessment: she is unoriginal and there are many people doing what she does and they do it BETTER.
Thanks. I did learn something. :-)

It's not fair to pick on you, especially as maybe in a year's time you've learned a thing or two about what distinguishes a professional artist from an amateur in his or her bedroom.
But if you haven't, then do try to catch up. A little more time learning, a little less time watching YouTube, maybe?

Classical fussion as Jennifer Adams (Montana Skies) terms it. Great new expression and a lovely way to enhance the enjoyment of our instrument, the cello.
