  • You've done a nice job with this piece, but the MUSIC has suffered for the NOTES. OK, yes the piece is a "study" and you probably learned it for a competition so you have reasons for focusing on correctness. But this is an improvization. Screw the notes and rythym. Play MUSIC!

  • Here's a repeat of a message I posted earlier.

"I have recorded this again. YouTube doesn't let you put in web addresses, but if you google this: Improvisation "virtuoso studies Op. 46 no. 4 by Edward MacDowell" with the quotes where I put them you'll get to our piano page, where the newer recording of the MacDowell is located."

This video was indeed a first take, for comments. The finished product was indeed for a 'federation' competition, and it went very well.

  • I searched that and got nothing.

  • I'm having a devil of a time figuring out how to put a URL in here. It just won't let me.

So, just google the two terms "Piano Page" dhfeld together. When I do this, the page is the first hit.

  • you don't "Increase" constantly, its more like you just stuck to a slow speed, then you had a fast speed. I didn't feel expression from this, and slow down on the not fast parts.

  • too fast

    slower and more expressive

put the improv part into improvisation :D

  • very good. Bravo!

  • I'm not sure if all editions carry this footnote, but my old copy suggests that the opening trill start ON the principal note, start slowly, and get faster. When done well, this reminds me of a flower opening up. Just a suggestion. You have a great feel for this piece, as you do in the Polonaise video. I'd love to hear you hammer through the Hungarian from op. 39.

  • "Virtuoso" is not this young pianist's designation. MacDowell titled the whole set "Twelve Virtuoso Etudes". So if you have a complaint, I suggest you go to Mr. MacDowell's YouTube channel and register your complaint there.

  • Very nice!

  • mr feldperson sir you can play my lord.

  • this is a wonderful piece. I never really heard much macdowell before. very nice.

  • moving helps with dynamics a lot for me. kind of acts as an action for my arms

  • i think half is feeling and half is techinique..

i have small hands and so does my teacher and if we wanna play louder we have to move in towards the keys and lean on them a little, you know what i mean?

but i think looking at this video it seems more like his feelings..

haha for me i just love to listen to myself play and i start movign a lot when i get REALLY into the song that im playing x]
