i just found this video and it makes me so happy!
They need to do something to bring this back. Even if it was just the Highlanders playing the national anthem and Amazing Grace. I would love to be a part of something like this. I don't think it'd be an issue of involvement. You would need a large group, would you?

In 2004, there was a reunion, sponsored by the U of IA Alumni Association for all past members, held during Iowa's homecoming. There is suppose to be another reunion during homecoming of 2009. There is no talk at the university of ever reviving the band to it's former glory.

You'd know better than me, but is it true that Hayden Fry gave the Scottish Highlanders the boot because he deemed them silly? Given that this had been a 50 year tradition, I assume there has to have been a reason for discontinuing this band...

Actually, Hayden Fry was very supportive of the group. In the Fall, he would send the band a signed letter, thanking them for all their hard work and efforts. Fry was also known to personally thank some members with a hand shake and sincere appreciation. Hayden Fry was, and still is, a class act.
