@niall29 From 1964 (YRGM) to...let's say, Imaginary Man (2009) is 45 years. And he's still writing songs that other artists want to record and perform. Irrelevant to whom? The great unwashed? What do they know? Who cares about sales? Listen to Animal, To The Bone, All She Wrote, The Morphine Song etc. etc. The general public is a fickle mistress-- no one cared about Vermeer for hundreds of years; Mozart was a "minor artist" ; Van Gogh never knew.... As Ray once wrote, "Time Will Tell".

@dalexwats Ah here dude, more like 29 years. 3 top 10 albums in the UK and not one in the States and more or less irrelevant since the mid 70's....and im very fond of Ray with or without the Kinks. Rose tinted glasses there my friend!

Great interview! I wish it could have gone on for an hour. I like when he says he was never a rock star. Ray reminds me of Buddy Holly in a way: singer/songwriter/musician/producer (of which Holly was the first to do all four). But neither one of them looked like Elvis or the Beatles on stage.
