I have been looking for someone to explain this stuff to me for almost 2 years now. Thank you so much, I actually understand now!!!
Your basic theory lessons are the best, it's so hard to learn this stuff. Do you have any more besides this blues box series that I'm missing?
-
So can you use every single box and stay in key?

@gr8bluesgtr One question, this seems to cover blues boxes for mainly the high E B G strings, but there isn't any charts for the lower strings. Except for blues box number 1, (blues scale)

im really thnkfull for this lesson its an easy way to aproach blues, five boxes are great when you lean how ti use it,you can mix with other scales(dorian, locrian etc)and give a very good flavor
-
The reason for the 5 positions is because there are only 3 positions on the guitar, period. This is due to the nature of the triad. You can only play a triad 3 ways. 1-3-5, 3-5-1, and 5-1-3. By the time you use them all, you've hit the octave and it's over. The 2 others are the "connections" between the other 3 positions. Your three positions are the basic barr chord, the first position G chord and the first position C chord. There are NO OTHER positions.

Looking snazzy with the glasses

I agree with the previous comment. Great lessons.

I think your approach is the most helpful I have found. Thank you for an excellent lesson.

but if you don't care about scales how do you adapt the licks to other progressions??

@indgiu Learning which notes will sound best with different chord changes. However, this is to simplistic to use over complicated forms of music. Works well over anything based on the major scale.

I am truly thankful for this lesson. For years, I have been stuck in Box No. 1 and all the Pentatonic bullshit I couldn't understand wasn't getting me anywhere. This lesson has truly broken the plateau I have been stuck on for years. Rock on bro, and thanks a million.

Folks keep in mind, this is only the first 10 minutes of a longer, premium lesson. I hope you get a lot of benefit from this and all the other previews, but in all honesty, there's a reason so many people buy the premium lessons. You cannot possibly understand the entire concept from just the free previews. There's just too much stuff explained in the full lesson that you're missing here.

Hi Anthony, I like your lessons very much so far. I learned the boxes, the overlaps etc. Box 1 and 2 I can use while playing in A (A-flat in Stevie-tuning) , but 3 and 4 don't fit in this key. I always thought that all the boxes were ment to use in one key, in this example A (flat). Are you going to explain later when I use 3, 4 etc. in combination with A(flat) or do I have to 'hear' when I use those boxes?

@luuzify Boxes 3 and 5 have a distinctly 'major' sound, Boxes 1, 2 and 4 have a distinctly minor pentatonic sound. Minor pentatonic can sound good in nearly every song, but the major sounding boxes will only sound good in songs that are not based on minor chords throughout.
