So... How are we supposed to empathize???
The last game I played that I genuinely enjoyed and felt involved with the main character was Red Dead Redemption, and that's because the player-controlled character had personality, depth, and a story. I agree with you on certain games, but this one to me felt like it was just to avoid bad and cliched writing.
