After Spock's death, Kirk looks back over the years they spent together, and the things that affected their relationship (Spock leaving him for Gol, Spock returning, etc).

Meanwhile, Kirk has to continue living in the present, and finds out that he might not have been too late...

It can be seen as 'friendship' instead of 'slash' if you want.
