Also, if you read the story about how God dictated for Moses to build 'The Arc of the Covenant,' you will see that he dictated to ONLY USE THE BEST. He did not ask to have the covenant placed in a cracker jack box, or a bare meeting hall. As for orders for churches to be built by leader, these orders were given because of their love of God, and a need for a place befitting to worship Christ. If you know otherwise, please produce documentation.

As for which people had a hand in Jesus death, or what languages they spoke, everyone of many languages of that time had a hand in Jesus crucifixion. He did for the sins of ALL mankind. Jews, Arabs, Greeks, Romans, and more. Oh yes, and as for English having more meaning to you in the Mass, the Marian Missal is both in Latin and in English, so even none Latin speakers can understand and follow along. Eventually, you come to even understand the Latin.

I am lucky when I have traveled the world, as I speak several languages, but now since the Catholic Mass is in the venacular of language each country speaks, unless you speak the language, you will not understand. As for why the Catholic churchs of ancient time were built as they were, I agree with Jacobito. It is because God always puts his best foot forward for us, so why should we do any less for him. He deserves only the best in prayer and in places of worship.

Millie if you studied the history of the Christian Religion, you would know that the Greek word 'Katolicos' which means universal Church, is the word Jesus used when he said on this Rock I will build my Katolicos 'Universal Church. You must be young. My guess is that you are under the age of 40. In my day, and in ancient times, Latin was the Universal language of the Christian Church. One could go anywhere in the world and the Mass would be understood, and the same.

Who do you think gave order to build these cathederals? The pope. Have you ever been to the Vatican? It's huge and full of gold and expensive artwork. And it's the home of the leaders of the church. Why should a church be full of artwork? Faith is not about these things, so Luther was right when he said that the catholics should not pay so the leaders of the church could prove how mighty they were.

We use gold and artwork in our churches to show our love for Christ by giving Him nothing less than the very best we can afford. The Creator of the Universe deserves much more than a bare meeting hall. And the Church leaders need money to live off of just as you and I do. God bless.

And just to add, there has never been an "order" or a "command" to build any church, whether it be a cathedral or a small country chapel. Churches are built by the people out of love for God not out of fear of the Holy Father. God bless.

Of course their has been an order! probably not for small country chruches or chapels. But I know for a fact that catherdrals were always build in order of the leaders of the church.
And I don't think that hanging your own house full of gold is a way of showing how much you love God.

I'm glad they changed it. At least now you know they're saying and you can actually participate instead of just sitting there having no idea of what's going on.

Catholics are just as capable, if not even more capable of participating in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. The Lord has a way of speaking to the soul through Latin, which was spoken in the time of Christ, in a way that is really quite awesome. God bless.
