What Would Jesus Do about the death penalty? Jonathan Kim of Brave New Films discusses what the Bible says about capital punishment on Meet the Bloggers. From Robert Greenwald's Brave New Foundation. See the whole episode at MeetTheBloggers.org.
A classic example of an athiest (I presume) attacking something which he knows nothing about. The bible clearly mandates the death penalty for murder (Exodus 21:12 and Genesis 9:6), as well as a number other offences including rape, kidnapping and being a false prophet.
People who want to argue against Christian teachings should admit that they are doing so. To use the bible to attack Christian morality is the ultimate dishonesty, and using Islam to attack the bible is ridiculous.
Yes, Jesus would and DOES support the death penalty! That is the state executing violent criminals as it SHOULD do. The death penalty is NOT 'murder,' which is an individual taking someone else's life unjustly. Jesus merely reminded Pilate that he DID have the power of the sword, but that he should be careful how he used it. He (Jesus) did NOT oppose the death penalty. "Eye for an eye" is NOT the main supporting passage for the correct use of Capital Punishment.
Sockmess is correct about us pro-lifers. We want to protect the innocent and judge the guilty (justly, of course). "But do you not know that we shall even judge angels?" 1 Corinthians 6:3. As for state-sponsored killing, what about state-sponsored infanticide? Lawyers and politicians are the ultimate criminals. Which is to say...don't trust anyone who wears a suit. XD
Number 1 there was nothing unjust about the death pentaly Jesus suffered. It was handed out in a democratic process under legal authorithy.
Number 2 Pro-life refers to the innocent. A repeat murder is not innocent in any sense of the word. And punishment must be dealt. Regardless of forgiveness.
