I prefer women voice for this aria, just listen to Elisabeth Schwartzkoph....she's amazing !!!! in italien is better "che faro senza Euridice"
he is too stong, he shouts

Like you I'm surprised to listen to this aria sung by a man but I do like it.
At last it has been done. Apart from that point J.D. Florez sings French
perfectly.

orfeo un tenore?
-
this is my favorite rendition of this aria.
-
he sounds a bit tired here. and the orchestra is terrible in my opinion

There's nothing surprising about Orfeo being sung by a tenor. This is the 1774 Paris version -Orphée et Eurydice-, revised by Gluck and with a tenor singing the part.

Does anyone know the painter and/or provenance of the painting starting at 00:28 into the video? It is clearly Orpheus and Eurydice farewelling Pluto and Persephone when they leave the underworld.
