(thx Dr. Kenneth Fish for providing the vids and all descriptions which are originally found at www.emptyflower.com)
The following was filmed by Dr. Kennith Fish at a party celebrating the opening of Liao Wuchang's son's kungfu school. This takes place in the 70's at Liao's son's school located in Yonghe, Taiwan. Performing in order are Kao Daosheng, Zhong Fusheng, Hung Yi Hsiang, and Liao Wuchang.
Kao Daosheng is performing Xiao Huyan, a form commonly done in Shandong Seven Star Mantis. Kao Daosheng often called his forms Changchuan Tanglang (long fist praying mantis).
Zhong Fusheng in his 70's performing eagle claw. Zhong Fusheng was the grandmaster of the Shandong Eagle Claw system.
Hung Yixiang performing Xingyi Linkage form.
Liao Wuchang in his 70's performing his Monkey Boxing form. After that, Liao and his son do some thows and basic Cai Family Shaolin blocking exercises.

Thank you for posting this video. For those who don't know....The large gentleman was Hung I-Hsiang, a true Xingyi master.

I can only go by what I see and this clip doesn't look much different than many other clips of Taiwanese martial artists from the same era that I've seen. As I mentioned in an early post, the old guy at the end is very good, but the others are not very impressive. I've seen 95 year old men on the China mainland that have more spirit than the others in this video. In another post, I made reference to some other Xingyi videos on youtube that are much better. See for yourself.

Undoubtedly impressive credentials. However, I am not sure you realize that you are criticizing Hung YiXiang, of Taiwan's Hung brothers fame, in this video. He may not give it all in this video (but I for one would not dare bet what he gives), but your comment might put you in a hard to defend position...

Really? And where did I say that? You assume much. Fact is, I've trained in Xingyiquan for about 5 years now (besides having trained in other combat-oriented martial arts for over 30 years) and I'm an honorary member of the Xingyiquan Specialty Group of the Zhejiang Wushu Association. Aside from having been very successful in street fights, I've also won several Xingyiquan (and Taijiquan) competitions in China and the USA. But you are nobody I need to justify myself to, so this exchange is over.

taijiguy, you should stick to taiji. You are impressed with wushu jumping and flailing yet you don't seem to understand that Xing Yi contains very heavy, methodical and smooth movements. The ones that are actually useful for fighting. Unlike wushu acrobatics, which are best for performance. Please spend some time actually training Xing Yi before you give such ignorant comments. I hate to even imagine what you consider good taiji...

I don't know who is who in this clip, but search for "Xing Yi Quan ( Hsing-I, 河北形意拳 ) 5 Elements and Linking form" on youtube. This is proper Xingyiquan, in both power and spirit. There are plenty of fine Xingyiquan practitioners of equal skill on the mainland, especially in Shanghai.
