Well, finally some good news: Obama's administration has decided to HALT the Missile Defense Shield in Eastern Europe - a huge item in the military budget for decades into the future - thus de-escalating tensions in that region. Better known as part of the Star-Wars program, initiated under Reagan, these proposals have now been tabled for the time being. And:
A United States District Judge in NY has REJECTED a lawsuit over the settlement of outrageous executive bonuses at Merrill Lynch, filed by the Security Exchange Commission, calling the plaintiff's arguments "absurd", and he will NOT grant an automatic judgement in this case, as was expected. He essentially called both the SEC and the banks fraudulent + in cahoots with each other! Judge Jed S. Rakoff should be applauded by everyone who values justice over convenience.

  • end the FED !

  • First thing I'm about 300% on board with the President on...

But keep it up... Bring the 500,000 troops home in 800 bases in 130 nations...

I'm sick of trillions spent in foreign lands "protecting" interests that are not in need of protecting.

  • Amidst all the Wall Street bad guys and corrupt members of Congress exposed in "Capitalism: A Love Story," I pose a simple question in the movie: "Is capitalism a sin?" I go on to ask, "Would Jesus be a capitalist?" Would he belong to a hedge fund? Would he sell short? Would he approve of a system that has allowed the richest 1% to have more financial wealth than the 95% under them combined?

  • i find my proverbial pessimist to be very sexy!!!

    :P

  • Israel is calling for war on Iran and since Iran borders Russia, any fallout from a destroyed nuclear reactor would have devastating consequences on the entire region. Would Russia stand down if Israel attacks? Would Russia use their own missile shield to stop Israel?

Obama is talking about a joint US, Russia, NATO missile shield. So, who will control this new combined defense shield that is being proposed?

I don't think this one is over just yet.

  • The US will continue to meddle in Russias sphere of influence including the Ukraine, Georgia, and central Europe. This back track from the missile shield in Poland & The Czech Rep is only an appeasement towards Russia so that they will tow the line and vote against the UN Inspectors recommendations that Israel be sent to the Hague to face War Crimes charges. The 5 permanent members of the Security Council are to vote on this very issue in the coming week. How do you think Russia will vote now?

  • I was glad to hear that the missle defense program was scrapped and I must admit rather surprised too.

  • Of course there's one government. What did you think? There should be two governments? Even if there were 150 parties there would still be one government.

    There are two parties, too.

Both can be true: one government, and two parties. Note: This doesn't mean the two parties aren't very similar in many important respects; they are.

  • Thanks Ella. I suspect, rather pessimistically, that Obama may go back on this issue of propose something else as compromise.

  • Both of these were very positive developments. The missile "defense" shield (a nice Orwellian description for what were clearly 1st strike weapons) had purchased us nothing but grief from everyone but our most blind allies (this means YOU, Polish govt.)

And is that a mention of...omg...FAIRNESS?! Just think how dangerous the concept of fairness could be if it worked its way into our justice system. Only the first to fall? Let's hope.

  • I was relieved to hear that news as well. It felt like the cuban missile crisis all over again.

Yes, one of the missing things from the financial crisis has been "Justice". This is good as was the Madoff conviction. Hopefully much more to come.
