Yes, it is a conundrum. The whole lay of the land has changed over the last couple of years. First the explosion of YouTube in the popular culture buried the vlogging community and marginalized its artistry, and then the Facebook element gave EVERYONE an online presence and bread crumb trail- so now the right people CAN'T find you and the wrong people CAN. It's frustrating.
