Rowing on Candlewood Lake, CT, practice in early summer of 1974 before moving on to Princeton. The US Eight later finished 1st at the 1974 World Championships, Lucerne, Switzerland. Rowers in this video include Al Shealy, Hugh Stevenson, Dick Cashin, Mike Vespoli, Tim Michelson, John Everett, Ken Brown, Mark Norelius, Jim Moroney, Gary Piantedosi, David Weinberg (cox), Ken Dreyfuss (cox). Coached by Allen Rosenberg who, in 2008 upon seeig this video, commented that he recalled the practice and that they "were in a violent thunder and lightning storm moments later." Bob Ernst likely took the video, this being the summer between ending his coaching at UCI and beginning at UW. Film retrieved in March 2007 from boxes of UC Irvine Rowing "stuff", stored in the basement of Crawford Hall. Thanks to Peter Mallory for tracking down the details on this historical video.
