Excerpts of Vesselina Kasarova, the wonderful Bulgarian mezzo-soprano opera singer as Oktavian and Orfeo (aired during an interview in 2007).

1. R Strauss: Der Rosenkavalier: final duet- Ist ein Traum/Spür nur dich allein (with Malin Hartelius as Sophie. Whole performance available on EMI DVD from Zurich Opera)

2. CW Gluck: Orfeo ed Euridice: Che faro senza Euridice? (whole performance available on her RCA Red Seal CD 'A Portrait')

  • I esp. like Kasarova's "Che faro senza Euridice?" Very straight-forward and bare-hearted as this piece should be sung.

  • It's devastatingly understated indeed. :o) If you haven't already found it, the track is from her 'A Portrait' CD. Sometimes I wish Zurich or Munich would stage an Italian version of Orfeo ed Euridice with her (I already like her in the French version, but she really sings better in Italian, I think).
