@chrisjackson1 Um...if you actually watched the remastered version of the fight you will notice how many of those punch Louis lander on Roper...and I'm always skeptical when I hear some "internet warrior" claim a pro-fighter is so bad they could "beat" them.

Roper had a wicked left hook, almost if not, as hard as the late Jerry Quarry's. Look it up.

@Hayze4Dayz Good way to explain it.

Louis's time (the 30s and 40s) produced far more fighters than there are today. You can tell that by the number of fights they had in those days. They paid more attention to the basics and experienced a wider variety of styles, so imo they were better. People say put Louis against Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield. I say put thse guys in against his "bums of the month". For their own safety don't put them in the same room as the Brown Bomber. 'Cause they'll get their asses handed back to them.

jackson: Your wrong Jack Roper was a very good fighter. Louis was in his prime condition when he beat Roper.
Look up Roper's record, as he had a t.n.t. left hook.

Ummm...because of the calibre of the opponents? Joe Louis was a great fighter, but WHY would he be fighting Roper as a 6th straight title defense? I could have beat Jack Roper. This fight was awful. If you watch, only 1 (or maybe 2) of the punches in the final flurry really land. Jack Roper wasn't knocked out, he was laying down.
joe louis is the greatest. not muhammed ali

People are always knocking joe louis because they feel like in his time as champ, no one was as skilled as he was and that wasnt true...if people did their homework on other fighters of that time you would see that there was plenty of competition just like in any boxing era...we just werent around at the time so we judge boxers that weve never seen in action other than when they get knocked out...get wit it bro
