Sylester Flowers graduated magna cum laude from Howard Universitys School of Pharmacy. After graduating, he opened his first retail pharmacy, The Apothecary, in Oakland, which grew into a chain of successful pharmacies primarily serving inner-city communities. As a result of the success, Flowers founded Ramsell Holding Corporation, where he currently serves as Chairman of the Board. Today, Ramsell is the parent company to four healthcare related businesses, and an information technology company. Each business donates a percentage of its profits to the Flowers Heritage Foundation, a non-profit organization focusing on the fight against AIDS by increasing awareness through education and implementing health care solutions in gaps identified in the public health care system. Among Flowers many accolades he was honored for his lifelong commitment to public health and in 2008 was awarded a Resolution recognizing his work by the California State Senate.
