Good locks can't prevent bicycles from being stolen. And few Dutch people report bike theft to the police because they think that the police won't do anything aobut it.

  • The more I learn about the Netherlands, the more I hate about America.

Funny, when I was younger, I was very political with communist type thinking. What was so funny, millons of Americans wanted me to run for US president... So, I dont' think I'm alone.

  • Thanks for broadcasting this.

  • Reporting a stolen bike to the police usually only makes sense to obtain a report number, in order to progress an insurance claim. Locking one's bike to a cycle stand or lamp post is a deterrent, but the determined thief will simply cut the chain or break the lock. And some will even steal the wheels and/or other parts fitted with Quick Releases (QRs). It is somewhat of a stretch to claim that bike theft encourages reciprocal theft, to make up for the loss :-)
