Here's a good example of why you should wear a helmet. They may be made out of compress foam and look a little flimsy, but they'll take a hell of a pounding before giving in. How do you think your head would look after that many hits with a hammer?
So a hammer weighing a few pounds, impacting at about 4mph or so is supposed to prove what? Certainly not that it would save you in an impact with a couple of tons of metal at above 15 mph or so. Even the manufacturers test results will tell you that. Or that the magic plastic will help avoid you a collision in the first place.
