A Dinoflagellate dances over a Cyanobacterial Filament, unaware of impending doom. Sample from Heron's Head Park salt marsh, pond OS1, San Francisco Bay. Shot with Nikon Coolpix 885 at 3x zoom through Olympus microscope at 1,000x oil immersion, Hoffman Modulation Contrast optics.

  • 1000x oil immersion wet mount, Olympus Hoffman Modulation Contrast optics, Irvine stand, Dolan Jenner fiber optic high-intensity light, Leitz eyepiece fitted to Nikon Coolpix 885 camera 3x optical zoom. All parts except Coolpix camera obtained used, assembled. Light-conducted rod between light source and microscope fabricated by lathe from 0.75-in lucite rod. Sample from Cyanobacterial mat [Oscillatoria sp], shallow pond bottom Heron's Head Park salt marsh, San Francisco Bay.
