why not just draw on the wood? it looks smooth enough?

it says in my chipcarving book not to use carbon paper, but graphite paper. WHY?

hey gene,
with the little guys you carve, what size band saw do you think someone needs? could a 9" band saw do what you carve? [the little workbench top type? they will cut about 3" thickness. could you get by with using 2" basswood for your little guys?
sure do appreciate everything you do for us.
