The Alumni Achievement Award is the highest form of recognition given by the University and the GW Alumni Association to alumni on an annual basis.
Five alumni were honored with the award on Sept. 15, 2011 during Alumni Weekend. The honorees are recognized for the lasting impact they have made on society though outstanding professional, voluntary or philanthropic accomplishments, and this year, they were selected from a pool of more than 50 nominees.
The 2011 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award recipients are:
-- Roslyn Brock, SPHHS MS '89, chairman of the National Board of Directors for the NAACP and vice president of advocacy and government relations for Bon Secours Health System, Inc.
-- Bruce Sewell, LAW JD '86, senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Apple, Inc.
-- Leonard Wartofsky, CCAS BS '59, MS '61, SMHS MD '64, SPHHS MPH '95, chairman of the Department of Medicine at the Washington Hospital Center.
-- Mary Margaret Whipple, CCAS MA '69, Virginia state senator, representing the 31st District.
This year's recipient of the Recent Alumni Achievement Award is:
-- Sherri Rose, CCAS BS '05, National Science Foundation mathematical sciences postdoctoral research fellow and author.
