So, it happened.

Joe (my seven-year-old son) hit me in a fit of rage when I asked him to turn the channel on the television from Cartoon Network to PBS.

What's a mom to do?

What I did: Marched him upstairs to time-out in his room, had his dad go upstairs and lecture him about how wrong it is to hit ANYONE (I was too pissed off to lecture calmly). He was told he could watch no TV the next day and that he should write an apology note to his Mom. That's what he did. We followed through with no TV (or computer) the next day. Everything has been fine since and he's been his normal sweet, loving self. (FYI, I showed him this video and asked him if it was ok to upload it. He said it was OK, but only for the fiveexhaustedmoms channel -- not for SevenAwesomeKids or bErzerkeley!)

  • Good Job, I am glad you disciplined your kids, a lot of parents don't and have horrible kids. nice video by the way :) I am glad you asked his permission first too, Grade A Mom!

  • I dont think I want kids.

  • aww so cute, guess hell know better next time lol

  • Lol... CN to PBS and then he hits you? Oh well I'm 11 and I'd probably do the same thing. Power to CARTOON NETWORK!

  • Aww . . . that was sweet of him to write what he did. I think you all did the right thing. At work, I constantly deal with kids who haven't learned their lesson. He seems to have learned his lesson. Everyone makes mistakes.

  • That was a great video! this will make him think more deeply about his actions.

  • I think you did great and following through on the punishment is what needs to happen. I deal with SO MANY students and parents who think kids can do WHATEVER they want as long as they say sorry. I'm GLAD they apologize and feel bad, they SHOULD but that doesn't mean the action doesn't have consequences! Nice work mom!

  • Ok..i know it was wrong for him to hit you

But you could tell by that note/picture/letter that he truly was sorrry

    x

  • Well done my dear. Keep the note in your memory box for when this happens to him!! Thanks, Grams

  • Agreed -- he got the lecture - no hitting ANYONE EVER and he got no tv and he had to write me an apology. He has not done it since and I don't think he will.
