Our Sun Conure, Chewy, used to be a super-sweet cuddlebug. Then he turned 5 and got all hormonal, and we've never been able to make him stop acting like a swooping, bloodthirsty vampire. We still love his little self!

@1dianaslasso If you clip his wings he may calm down. I give Kiwi a moderate clip which still allows him to fly but not to gain altitude. When he's fully flighted he becomes territorial..still lovable but more stubborn.

@rufiebooz we paid $250 for Kiwi but that was 8 years ago...so I'm sure they cost more now. Kiwi is an only bird and very happy..but we give him alot of attention. TY for all the XXXXXXX for Kiwi :-)

Oh I wish my babies would cuddle w/me like that! how sweet =) Mine are newly adopted, so we're still bonding & learning to trust. Any tips? Mine don't like to be touches or handled, but will jump on my shoulder or arm on their own terms & preen my hair "Oh honey you look a hot mess...lemme fix it for ya!" Lol. But NO hands or fingers near them cuz they bite, but I'm rehabing them from previous abuse, so they has "issues."

@scenethelite not really sure what to tell you. I've had Kiwi since he was a baby. It's prob. going to be harder for you seeing that they have "issues" poor things...but they're lucky now to have found a good, forever, home.

@rufiebooz Sun conures are about $600 at pet stores. Green cheek conures are $350. But be prepared to shell out almost as much for cage, toys playground, treats. Also vet bills when necessary. Parrots are a significant financial commitment. Don't get one if you're not willing to spend the money on them.

@scenethelite I have been working with our Sun Conure, and our female Grey, using positive reinforcement. If they let me touch them without biting, they get a treat. I continually reinforce with words in a happy tone of voice like "Good bird! No biting! Very good!". I have gotten the Grey to accept a lot more petting, and the conure has even let me put my fingers under his wings for short moments. It takes time and patience. Best of luck with your new babies!
