MunMaak in Pattaya

The members of MunMaak stretched the agile legs of their exclusive high performance, super luxury cars to take a late Saturday afternoon drive from Bangkok down to Pattaya to be the undisputed automotive guests of honour at the opening ceremony of the Pattaya Motor Show 2010.

After meeting up at the Mod Daeng restaurant on Srinakarin Road in Bangkok in mid-afternoon the the twenty-strong group of cars made easy work of the 120 km highway route into the seaside resort the first of the convoy rolling up Beach Road and swinging into CentralFestival Pattaya Beach chasing up to line up in an angled row in front of the mall's deck on Pattaya Second Road where they were instantly engulfed by shoppers and tourists surprised to see such a line-up of exclusive cars on a Saturday afternoon.

The collection gleamed under the clear blue late afternoon sky as the heat quickly dropped out of the fading sunlight, the resort turning to a sea of lights as the evening revved up. The MunMaak regulars brought many of their familiar cars such as the Porsche 911, Lotus Exige S, Nissan Z and GTR, BMW C4, BMW 5-series, Subaru Impreza, Ford GT and Audi R8. Less familiar was an elegant new metallic-gunmetal second-generation Maserati Quattroporte GT S while the Trident brand was also represented by a GranTurismo which took up pride of place in the VIP area in front of the main stage. Italy's motoring style and panache was further in evidence thanks to a beautiful red Ferrari Testarossa, a car that perfectly typifies the exuberance of the 1980s, as well as a fearsome body-kitted Lamborghini Diablo. A luxurious jet-black Audi A5 and a Range Rover completed the line-up.

Displayed in a long angled row front of the towering mall in the fading light these sports cars, all exemplary automotive works of art, were the real stars of the show's opening evening and were at the centre of non stop attention from guests and the many passersby. By eight o'clock they were gone, growling and snarling their way out through the steel barriers to be engulfed in the never ending blaze of headlights of the incessant traffic that is the trademark of Pattaya Second Road.
