The idea of giving away product --free-- gives the willies to any self-respecting business person. But that's what working musicians do in exchange for the exposure offered by an appearance on The WoodSongs Old Time Radio Hour, the radio..and now, television..show taped every Monday evening in Lexington's Kentucky Theater before a standing-room-only audience.
As he prepares for a milestone 500th show, creator and host Michael Johnathan talked with Tom Martin about the guiding philosophy driving the program and what's in it for those artists who generously share their works.

  • Michael rules, love his guitar work. Woodsongs is a gift. This makes me want to come to Lexington and see the show live. How much is a plane flight from Toronto these days???

  • I was a fan before, I'm a bigger fan now. I think Michael deserves an award. Thanks for all the great music and chances to discover your world of diamonds. Long live Woodsong.

  • have they gone hi def on TV yet? I know the effort to raise the funds was/is underway.

  • I don't near enough to attend a show but I watch them all the time.

  • I went to a show when I was 7 xD All the kids got to go up and sing "My home Bay" or something xD

  • We are proud to be a Woodsongs affiliate and treehuggers. Congrats on #500!!!

  • Just posted

  • I completely agree with this.

  • I am old enough to remember so many others who furthered the careers of others, from Ed Sullivan and Ted Mack onward in time. Michael Johnathon surpasses all of them in two respects. He is a great singer/songwriteer himself who will be a legend of the caliber of Pete Seeger eventually. He has established him own completely non-profit resource to deliver this truly ground breaking global radio, television and internet program.

  • I love WoodSongs!

  • I didn't know about Woodsong until a friend shared this clip with me. I have already ordered my tickets for the 500th show and we are coming in from Florida, I love Richie Havens. Why didn't I know about this show before, the archive page is incredible.
