  • Yes, I tried to watch the original video and I'm pretty sure it is the Charouz Lola-Aston LMP1. Sound and speed makes me think it is the LMP 1 version.

  • LMP1 version? there was only one Lola-Aston :)

unlike this year, where there will be four howling V12 in LMP1! Three factory Astons with revised bodywork plus the ex-Charouz car run by Speedy Sebah team.

  • I meant it is not so easy to see in clip if it was the DBR9 or Lola Aston Martin.

Yes I'm happy for every petrol LMP1 on the grid this year because it will be too many diesels in 2009.

  • ok. yeah, i hope the new regs get fixed too.

  • If you thought Audi's and Peugeot's diesels races were genuinely superior, you're a victim of marketing...

Of course this is not really the organizers' fault. Lets say if there had been all the time a big manufacturer with petrol in mind, then the balance would be a lot better, instead of letting Audi basically dictate the diesel regs prior to 2006. Altough I think there will never be a real balance. Other technology will always have advantage. Hopefully the new engine regs for 2011 are better.

  • No, not less "regulated"... but as the regulations currently are, diesels will have clear horsepower and torque advantage, thanks to forced induction.

It's not only about the displacements (5.5 L turbo diesels against 6.0 L NA or 4.0 L turbo petrols) but boost pressures and restrictor sizes. I don't know if it is good to directly compare them since the technologies are different, but lets just say if petrols had same restrictors...

  • wait, are you saying that diesels have less regulations/rules compared to petrols? meaning that they have an advantage over petrol?

  • It won't help, because you know, diesels are made to win. Thats how the regulations are now. Next year again slightly adjusted (diesels get smaller restrictors, petrols get bigger ones) but all this is too late.

It's just doesn't matter when you're 100-200 bhp down, not because of your capability to build an engine, but because of the regulations.

  • ahhh man i know. i hate the diesels. what we need some car manufacturer to do is to just put all their effort into their own car like audi and peugeot do but then add some huge v12 engine into it to kick the diesels asses. that would show that diesels aren't the best way to go. i think toyota should try something since they haven't been involved for awhile or something new from ferrari would be great. they have done all of this aerodynamic stuff with f1, so why do le mans?
