I buy as much "normal" food as I can at grocery stores and then supplement with "vacation food," not the other way around :P

Love these tips! I'm going up north to visit my partner's family over the holidays and will be packing a whole lot of food for myself and plan to hit up a grocery store to stock up on fruits & veggies to get me through.

My wife and I went to Hawaii in 2004. first thing we did??? went to the grocery store. Best way to enjoy food on vacation and save a ton of loot.
