ABB IRB 1600 industrial robot performs a bluesy solo from the contemporary dance work Actuator by choreographer Thomas Freundlich. The 30-minute duet for dancer and robot premiered in May 2008 at the Z-in-Motion festival of the Zodiak Center for New Dance in Helsinki, Finland.
Interesting to watch, thanks for posting this.

Even after the numerous fatalities and injuries caused by industrial robots (come on, it's pretty much hydraulics and huge motors), someone would still design a dance to be performed by man & machine... Oh well..
Also, someone should stop that whining noise...

In an industrial setting, the operator is not allowed within range of the machine when running. Even here, I was only interacting with it physically in a few designated spots where the robot was moving veeeery slowly. Trust me, when you've seen it moving @ full speed, you REALLY don't want to be anywhere close by! :D
Some of the latest technologies do in fact allow operators to safely interact with industrial robots so it could be cool to see how that would translate into dance.
Cheers!
