One of my favorte Lennon tunes. That dark, haunting walkdown chord progression...

If only he hadn't gone to the US ..apparently they had him under surveillance the minute he got there. ..Nutters.

Thanks for uploading this. I remember buying the album in 1974. Looking back, I think 1974 - 1975 were the greatest years for music. Certainly my favorite years. 8O) Added to the worldunitedmusicDOTblogspotDOT

The chorus sounds a little bit like How Do You Sleep.

@galileo1957 I've heard him say in an interview that he realized that this song was about himself after all. I always thought it was, before i knew that it was supposedly about Allen Klein.

Only a great artist will open his heart like this, with no shame, no bounds, just his soul crying out aloud for the whole world to feel his pain.
And thanks to the poster for including sound and relevant information on the song.

@galileo1957 Absolutely.

Was this written in NYC or back in LA?... (Saw the PBS "American Masters" program the other night...must be the best documentary of his last years... even if the "Am. Master" label is a stretch.) Walls & Bridges / Steel & Glass seems to imply a comparison/ contrast of some kind.

I love Johns 'Hate' songs...

@charminggent77 You know what? Lennon yelled at himself in song(he admits in several interviews) and this one is no different; This song is recorded during his lost weekend (9 mos) separation from Yoko in LA. .....listen to the words... "There you stand with your LA tan, your New York walk" "You were separated from your mom when you were young" .. Think about it ..... Stems from his earlier practice of primal scream therapy .... Despite what wikipedia says ....
