The Beulah, ND, Rural Fire Protection District boasts a new fire truck, thanks to volunteer efforts, grants and donations from companies like Basin Electric. Firefighter Mick Dettmann says the fire department had been working since 2007 to acquire funds and materials to build the much-needed truck. Basin Electric donated the Ford pickup truck from surplus through the Charitable Giving Program. The fire department received the truck in September 2009, and Eli Schumann, Jim Wenning and Dettmann helped put it together during work nights at the fire hall. A new fire truck would cost about $70,000; Dettman says they built it for $5,800. The truck made its first run in December 2009 and was a showpiece at the state fire school the weekend of Feb. 27 in Bismarck, ND.
