my first serious songwriting project that paid tribute to the resiliency of Filipinos comparing the seasonal trade winds affecting their archipelago to the cultural currents that made their country a unique blend of eastern and western influences. I really don't know if I was successful in conveying the concept in a 2-3 min. pop song, but I am most grateful to Pauline Barreiro and the three other talents from the UP Concert Chorus who put life into this song as well as to Romy Salcedo as musical arranger.
My song that first got airplay in Manila was "At Seventeen" sung by the Mignonettes whose only recording (in a 45 vinyl record then) was gifted to a girl who liked to play frisbee. It must be in a field somewhere in Makati and I will just have to reconstruct the arrangement with the talents I hope to meet.
