This fish was caught July 4th in Shinnecock Bay. No one seems to know what type of fish this is, including people who have fished the same waters for over 50 years!!!

  • cool... but for the next photo shoot maybe at least keep your mysterious fish in a bucket of water lol

  • its not a monk fish idiot

  • It's a northern stargazer, I live 600 feet from the bay and have fished my whole life, and have seen them before.

  • No its not. Its a northern stargazer. I caught one last year; didn't know what it was, so I sent several photos to an ichthyologist at the University of Washington. Confirmed Northern Stargazer. Only found in the Atlantic off the Northeast States. They have minimal but definite electric potential.

  • actually, it is a baby monk fish, also called an ocean blowfish. I am a 5th generation bayman from southampton.
