Possibly my favorite piece by Beethoven. This is the third movement of his String Quartet, Op. 132 in A minor. The quartet was begun at the end of 1824 or early 1825. Beethoven then became ill with a serious intestinal inflammation, and this movement was written shortly after. The picture is a drawing of Beethoven on his deathbed in 1827 by Joseph Danhauser.

  • I am listening to this lying in a hospital bed after a successful operation of a disabling, excruciating back problem, and I am moved to the depths of my heart by by this extraordinary poem of gratitude, humility, and love of life. Thanks for posting - this too can heal.

Beautiful comment! So glad to hear when other people are helped by this. I had this played for the procession of my wedding. It is indeed deeply moving and penetrating music.

  • No words to describe this.

  • I was brought here by Huxley's "Point-Counterpoint", anybody else?

  • @transvogelite What lovely music to wed to! It's one of my favorite Beethoven pieces too. I first heard it live, just a couple years ago while I was in college, played even slower than in this recording. The experience left an indelible mark on my memory. As soon as I recuperated my senses after the operation, I knew this was the first piece of music I needed to hear.

  • Simply Lovely!
