May I ask you something? Christians believe in the Torah, they believe that it is the word of G-d just as Jews do, don't they? It's their Old Testament, right? So, they must believe that every word in it is true. Yet it says over and over in the Torah that this Torah is forever, the mitzvos are forever, that G-d will never change the Torah or the mitzvos or exchange the Jews for another nation. Yet Christianity contradicts all of these things. How can you explain that?
The answer is Christianity is the fulfillment of all these things, not its contradiction.
Nobody who understands what Yeshua (Jesus) taught believes that the Torah and mitzvos have been done away with. The New Testament agrees that all of these still stand as the perfect law of G-d.
BUT, by no means can anyone be saved by them. Indeed, not one person has obeyed them. ONLY Yeshua Ha'Mashiach obeyed all of them perfectly. He is our High priest forever.
If Christians believe that mitzvos are the perfect law of G-d, then, why don't they keep them? As I understood it (and I could easily be wrong, not being an expert in Christian theology) Christians believe that it is no longer necessary to keep mitzvos because Jesus died and brought salvation for everyone, so all you have to do is believe in Jesus (and I think Catholics believe through good works as well) and you'll be saved. Yet, as I said, this contradicts the Torah, which they believe in.
(cont'd) This is because, as I said earlier, it says in the Torah that the mitzvos will never be changed, and yet Christianity holds that they are no longer applicable. Christianity also believes, as you said, that the way to connect to G-d is through Jesus, not through mitzvos, and yet this, too, contradicts Torah, which says that mitzvos are the way to achieve closeness with G-d.
Christianity does NOT hold that they are no longer applicable, my Friend.
That is where you are misunderstanding YHVH's New Covenant with His Messiah as foretold in the Torah, e.g., Isaiah.
Yes, we are to follow Mitzvos - as they are always a way to connect with G-d and following them brings blessing; breaking them can lead to punishment.
BUT - and this is life or death - we are not saved by them. Now, since Messiah has come to save us, we are saved through Him alone. He is the Son of G-d!
But Christians DON'T follow mitzvos. They don't keep kosher, or Shabbat, or give a brit mila to a baby boy. They observe completely different holidays. There are a few mitzvos which they keep (mostly the 10 Commandments) but mostly they violate everything. If, as you say, Christianity believe in mitzvos and that breaking them leads to punishment, I'm more confused than ever. What's going on?
Believers in the Son of God, in Jesus the Messiah, do keep His commands. His greatest command is to "love the Lord your Elohim with all your heart, mind, soul and strength." And the 2nd is like it, that is to love your neighbor as yourself.
We know from Scripture the commands that truly hold weight with G-d. For example, it is written that all is lawful for us to eat, and it is written that man was not made for the Sabbath, but the Sabbath for man. Jesus said that. You must believe in Him.
Therefore, Yeshua (Jesus) alone can atone for sins, making one acceptable to G-d unto salvation. The word of G-d declares that we must trust in what He did in order to receive salvation. He died, and shed His blood as an unblemished Lamb, and the Son of G-d in our place. G-d says if you believe in Him you will inherit everlasting life. If you do not, you will inherit everlasting punishment. If you want to abide in the law, you will by no means be saved. Only by Yeshua can anyone know G-d.
